Oranges and Christmas stockings

With Christmas day a week today, we hope you’ll be adding an orange to your family’s stockings!

We see oranges in our stores all year round however the fruit always brings a feel of festive cheer to every household around this time. If it’s not an orange then you can often find a mandarin, clementine or satsuma.

The orange packs a punch when it comes to nutritional value and are known for being a great source of vitamin C.

Just one medium orange can provide us with over 150% of our Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA).

Consuming antioxidants such as oranges helps the body to fight against cancer (especially colon cancer), prevent inflammatory conditions such as asthma and arthritis as well as keeping cholesterol levels in check. The most commonly known advantage of eating oranges is to help the immune system so this time of year is a great time to eat these juicy fruits.

Recent research from Australia has also found that oranges can improve alertness and adding an orange to your breakfast could help boost your energy levels.

So over the next couple of days, why not reach for an orange instead of that extra mince pie?
