From Bootcamp to Pilates – the Development of the Pilates Method

Bootcamp Pilates (BCP) is a revolutionary fitness system which has kept Londoners in shape for over ten years. Dubbed “The People’s Pilates”, because it caters for everyone, whatever their shape, size and ability, it helps people quickly attain the levels of fitness they desire. And it’s a lot of fun too!

Our equipment is state of-the-art and our trainers are some of most talented in the industry. Before working with our clients, they must go through a rigorous training programme – The Bootcamp Academy, which has been refined and perfected over our ten year history and of which we are justifiably very proud.

Primarily, BCP focuses on busy, active, professional women with tight schedules offering them an effective and pleasurable means of keeping fit in their daily routine.

Proven

The idea for this unique Pilates based fitness technique was first developed in California. Sensing a sound business opportunity, Dominique Day brought the regime over to London and it instantly became a big hit, breaking even on its initial investment in six months and taking its place at the forefront of fitness in the capital.

BCP provides a range of 55 minute workouts to suit every level of ability, using leading trainers and studios located in many of London’s wealthiest principal residential and business areas like the City of London, Fulham, Notting Hill and Richmond.

In a climate where people are increasingly concerned about their personal fitness, we offer an alternative workout for those wishing to avoid the gym and yet wanting to function at the top of their game.

Why our method?

The unique selling point of this product is: people get addicted to our secret recipe exercise routines after a single session - guaranteeing return visits.

The Evening Standard named us as one of the best Pilates organisations in London because our clients lose weight and gain muscle-tone, increased flexibility, and more defined abdominal muscles in as little as twelve weeks, thus leaving other ‘traditional’ Pilates practitioners behind.

The Reformer

The most famous piece of Pilates equipment is the Reformer. With its sophisticated system of springs, straps, and pulleys, several hundreds of exercises can be performed on this extremely versatile machine. It helps an individual to establish torso stability and postural alignment, whilst simultaneously working all the body’s muscles.

The machine’s adjustable springs allow for progressive resistance which, rather than simply bulking the muscles helps to lengthen and strengthen them. This provides an effective, no-impact stretching and toning workout, which is friendly to the skeleton and joints.

Bootcamp: The Next Evolution in Pilates

In 2001, an innovative Pilates-based strength-training program was developed in the USA. The technique effectively combined the therapeutic qualities of the original Pilates method with the sculpting and toning benefits of circuit training, providing an intense, one-hour workout.

The fitness regime was so effective it quickly acquired a celebrity list of devotees including Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston, and Rihanna. One of the clients was TV Producer Dominique Day who expressed an interest in bringing this new approach to the UK.

In 2005, she became the founder and Managing Director of BCP, inaugurating the first Bootcamp studio in London’s fashionable Notting Hill. The company’s success was immediate, with London’s glitterati, including Abby Clancy, Emma Watson, and Sophie Anderson rapidly becoming addicted to the Bootcamp technique.

Within a year, this achievement inspired Dominique to open a second studio in the heart of London’s financial district. Other studios in trendy Fulham and leafy Richmond-upon-Thames followed in quick succession.

Market Analysis

The present economic climate is ripe for expansion. The current issue of our industry bible ‘Leisure Opportunities’ reports a highly resilient industry. In addition, they identify a new market trend away from gyms and memberships: health and fitness consumers are more inclined to turn to ‘micro’ boutique studios which offer flexible packages rather than binding membership deals.

Our aim is to provide an exceptional service using innovation, imagination and teamwork among the staff. Our trainers take pride in their work, which in turn helps them to bond with our clientele.
