Keeping a Healthy Balanced Diet

 In News

With everyone’s lifestyle balance being fairly skewed at present, it is important to try to keep healthy both physically and mentally.

Here are some tips on keeping a balanced diet over the coming weeks.  Teamed with taking some of our live or on-demand classes, they should hopefully assist in improving your general wellbeing.

  1. Balanced Meals

Aim to keep an 80/20 rule between healthy and indulgent meals.  Allowing yourself that 20% of freedom means that you will not feel like you are missing out and as a result won’t overindulge.  This balanced and moderated approach will help both your body and your mind.

  1. Don’t view food as bad and good

A psychological issue that many people find it difficult to adjust to is the relationship between food and the conscious thought process of good food, bad food, cheat foods and treats.  Removing the good, bad and the ugly will not only help you deal with the days when all you want to do is eat a pizza or your favourite chocolate bar, it will also stop you craving what you cannot have and feeling guilty when you give in.  Everything in moderation is fine and will help you keep a healthy balanced diet.

  1. Drink Plenty of Water

This is probably something you hear a lot but it’s true.  Drinking two litres of water a day will help keep you hydrated, your mind clear and give you the energy you need to tackle the day.  It will also fill you up and help keep those cravings at bay, avoiding those continuous trips to the kitchen!

  1. Be conscious of what you drink

Smoothies, vitamin drinks and fruit juices can often have just as much sugar and calorie content as fizzy drinks and energy drinks.  Remember, just because it says it is healthy on the packaging, doesn’t mean it necessarily is.  You should therefore check the sugar content, calories and even the ingredients before consumption.

Remember that the simplest of drinks is the best – that’s why we think you should drink plenty of water!

  1. Move Your Body More

Keeping yourself active is incredibly important.  Moving away from your desk or the couch and taking a walk will not only assist with your daily step count but will make you take a break and help you reset your mind for the rest of the day.

Including one, two or maybe more of our Bootcamp Pilates classes into your daily routine will help give you extra energy, as well as releasing some of those amazing endorphins that make us all feel great.

  1. Set small fitness goals that help you achieve larger ones

Setting one big goal that could take one or even two years to complete may mean that there is no light at the end of the tunnel.  Setting more instantly achievable goals will help keep you motivated along your fitness journey.

Setting both easy and difficult goals will still allow you to feel accomplished if you are finding things challenging.

For example, having a healthy breakfast in the morning will set you up for the day.  Taking the stairs rather than every lift will help.  Walking to the shops instead of driving is also something straightforward that can help you set healthy habits.  In turn these will accumulate to help you then achieve your bigger goals.

I hope these simple yet effective tips help you on your fitness journey. We look forward to welcoming you on one of our virtual or studio classes very soon
