We are pleased to announce that we are starting BARRE classes at our City studio from Monday 4th August.

So, we thought we would catch up with Lucy Potucek who will be teaching the classes to find out what is so special about BARRE…

What is your name and give us a brief background to what you do?

Lucy Maria Potucek, I am a freelance Pilates and Barre teacher and I love it!

What is a BARRE class?

BARRE is the perfect blend of low impact, high intensity training. It’s a combination of Pilates, dance, cardio and sculpting movements for the body. It is a total body workout with a focus on the abdominals and emphasis in the glutes and hamstrings.

Why should our members try one of our new BARRE classes?

Its a fun, high energy workout that will leave your body shaking and you’ll feel the burn. It gets addictive! If you want a long, lean and honed look: like a dancer - this is for you.

What benefits will you see from attending BARRE classes alongside your usual Pilates classes?

You’ll see and feel a transformation in your body within a month! (Obviously depending on diet and frequency) your muscles become stronger, longer and leaner and more sculpted. Your metabolism will be raised for the rest of the day and the endorphin rush will make you feel alive.

How do you keep fit?

I keep it varied, from climbing, Pilates, Parkour, Barre, Dancing, Krav Maga and anything that moves my body including dancing like a loon around my living room with the music on full blast!

Who inspires you to keep fit?

My mother and any of my fellow parkourist, climbers, dancers that I know, who are incredible and still pushing themselves even in their 40’s+

Do you eat a healthy diet?

Yes 90% of the time! You have to indulge or it’s not worth it. Likewise, my schedule is so demanding that I have to fuel up properly and I feel my best when I have pure, good food.

What is your top tip for other women trying to get fit?

Push yourself physically harder. Even at your last rep and you feel like you can’t go on, don’t give up - give it 3 more, as these will change you, physically and mentally. The only person you can change is you. Face the fear and do it!
